Loek van Wely, Laurent Fressinet, Jan Gustafsson and Jorden van Foreest will team up from Sunday onwards to stream 72 hours of non-stop blitz against chess24 Premium members. The action starts at noon local time in Hamburg, Germany, with Jan promising, “72 hours of more or less non-stop talking nonsense”. There’s never been a better chance to play against a chess grandmaster – or to beat one! Our heroes may have won 11 national titles between them, but will they be at their best at 3am on a Monday morning?

The Banterthon is back! Here are the details:
When is the Banterthon happening?
The action starts at noon in Hamburg, Germany (06:00 New York, 11:00 London, 14:00 Moscow, 16:30 Mumbai, 22:00 Sydney) on Sunday 10th February and continues without a break for 72 hours! The provisional schedule is as follows:
Sunday 10th February 12:00 – 14:00: Jan, Loek, Laurent & Jorden
14:00 – 18:00: Jan
18:00 – 22:00: Loek
22:00 – Monday 11th February 04:00: Laurent
04:00 – 08:00: Jorden

10:00 – 14:00: Jan
14:00 – 18:00: Loek
18:00 – 22:00: Laurent
22:00 – Tuesday 12th February 04:00: Jorden
04:00 – 10:00: Loek
10:00 – 16:00: Jan
16:00 – 20:00: Laurent
20:00 – 00:00: Jorden
Wednesday 13th February 00:00 – 04:00: Loek

08:00 – 12:00: Jan, Loek, Laurent & Jorden

How do I take part in the Banterthon?
Everyone is very welcome to watch the live show here on chess24, but if you’re a chess24 Premium member you also have an ideal chance to play against some chess grandmasters! Simply hover over the “Banterthon” username under the live video, click “Challenge me!” (the button will be active when “Banterthon” is online) and choose your time control. Normally the grandmasters will play 3 or 5-minute games, but they’ll no doubt try out different things over the 72 hours. Then just enjoy the show while you wait to be picked and automatically taken to the game…
