Since the European Championship had to be postponed due to the pandemic, the European Chess Union has decided to hold a “hybrid” event to decide 36 of the European qualifying spots for the 2021 World Cup. The event will be open to 2600+ rated players, with a limit per federation, and the plan is that the players will play online, but from a central venue in their country where an arbiter will be present. The games will be FIDE rated.
