Nikita Vitiugov has won the first ever Prague Masters, taking clear first on 5.5/9, half a point ahead of Vidit, Radek Wojtaszek, Jan-Krzysztof Duda and Boris Gelfand. Nikita will be welcomed back next year, as will David Anton, who qualified for the 2020 Masters by winning the Challengers with 6/9, half a point ahead of Jan Krejci and a point ahead of Ju Wenjun. The Open tournament was won by Hannes Stefansson on 7.5/9.
The next big chess events on the horizon are the European Championship, that starts tomorrow with Vladislav Artemiev the top seed, and the US Championship, that begins on Wednesday with Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So, Hikaru Nakamura and defending champion Sam Shankland this year joined by Leinier Dominguez, who, after switching chess federation, is about to play his first official classical games in three years!
